Beat the game and want to Map

This is the first game in the trilogy I've played, and I just beat it. Now I'm looking for the last dozen power crystals, and I'm very satisfied with the overall experience. A lot of good things went into making 3T, and I'm telling friends about it. Thank you for a good clean, challenging Zelda game for Zelda veterans.
I'm a programmer, and I would love to make a custom Zelda game.
I'm trying to figure out the Map Editor, even though it's in French. I need documentation and tutorials in English, or with lots of pictures. Can anyone help?
Also, I'm having problems getting the the ROTH map editor to work with 3T. It draws most of the tiles correctly, but my copy/paste of the tile image files has failed. It's drawing the wrong tiles. Also, the editor says compatibility with 3T is impossible -- the white box "3T" has a red X. Please help!
