Very Serious Barter Bug

I have encountered a very serious bug with the barter system.
I started the game normal and explored all of hyrule city & castle before meeting the waterfall guy that explains the barter system. Since I explored other areas first, I had already found some barter items from chests and whatnot, but I didn't get have access to the barter inventory screen. After I finally talked to the waterfall guy and he told me about the barter system, I checked my barter inventory and all the barter items I had prior to meeting the waterfall guy were missing!!
Because of this I had to start the game all over again and go straight to the waterfall guy before really exploring!
I know this game was released many years ago but this is a serious bug. Are there any other menu/inventory screens I have to unlock? (I hope they don't have similar bugs!)
